This is the work of the Oscar award winning Shaun Tan and the picture above on the left is from the book titled Tales From Outer Suburbia and the picture is called 'The fire burned with astonishing intensity', and the picture above on the left is from the book The Arrival and is titled 'Harbour'.
Shaun Tan comes under artists/illustrators because although these pictures are from books, each picture could stand alone in an art gallery and his work could be compared to any great Australian or international artist. Shaun as a unique imagination and the great ability to bring surreal into the real.
Above is the work of Clemens Habicht, the top picture is titled The Bulletin Magazine 2007, bottom left is from a series called 'Ocna Sibiului' 2004, bottom middle titled 'Business week' 2008, bottom right is from a series called 'Good Weekend' 2008.
Clemens Habicht is a world renowned editorial illustrator, graphic designer and he also produces short films for festivals, music videos and television advertisement.
Above are the work of Amanda Upton, on the left is an etching titled 'Surry Hills' 2001 and the painting on the right comes from Amanda's website where none of her works are titled. Amanda is also an editorial illustrator but i much prefer the oil paintings she dose for exhibitions. I was lucky enough to interview Amanda and found out that editorials/commissioned work is just that, and her paintings/etchings are what fulfills her heart and sole.
Above is the work of Elise Hurst, these pictures are from an exhibition called Strangely Familiar. The painting on the left is titled 'Two-way street', and the painting is titled 'It was his favourite place to write'.
Elise Hurst is also a picture book writer/illustrator but it is the art she exhibits that I really enjoy. Elise has only published one childrens book using this style (which is the only one I really visually enjoy).
Shaun Tan, Amanda Upton and Elise Hurst all go about 'it' differently but they can all paint and draw their imagination.
